Sketching an Idea

Sketching my idea is the first reality in making a piece of Hot Knickers Lingerie. Using coloured pencils and my sketch pad I like to draw my design. I collect inspiration from old movies, postcards, books fabrics lace and talking with other women about their lingerie needs.

Cutting Fabrics

The fabrics I use come on great heavy rolls, so I cut off 2 metre lengths, which are far more manageable. The cut length is then laid out on the cutting table and the pattern pieces are laid out. I use glass paper weights to hold the pieces in place. Each piece is cut out using a rotary cutter. I find this gives the cleanest edge.

I use several types of sewing machines in order to make a piece of lingerie; an over locker, a cover stitch, a zigzag and a straight stitch machine. It’s quite a set up.

Making up of the Garment

When making up each garment I pin the seams first to keep the pieces aligned. Then the pieces are cover stitched together. Next I sew the lace trim on using the zigzag and then if it’s a garment that has straps I sew them using the straight stitch.

The Finished Product

Once an order has been made it has a swing tag attached. It’s then wrapped in tissue paper and tied with a ribbon placed in a luxurious black and gold gift bag ready to be posted to the client in a mail bag.
